SJSU Votes! is already making plans for the upcoming election. Classes begin in August and Pols 108 students will manage SJSU Votes! as an experiential learning project. The project will also now be housed under the Political Science Department’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE). We’ll announce additional events as we finalize them.
It's Election Day!
It’s Election Day in California and SJSU Votes! is going to be canvassing on campus 3-7pm to encourage the SJSU Community to vote. Make your voice heard!

SJSU Votes! Mobilizes on Campus
SJSU Votes! mobilized SJSU students, faculty, and staff during A.S. SJSU Democracy Week on February 25th and 27th on the 7th St. Plaza. On March 2nd, SJSU Votes! canvassed on campus to encourage people to go to the Vote Center at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. If you haven’t voted yet, go vote! It’s not too late to register or to change your registration. Head to the Vote Center!
Last Week Was Busy!
Last week, SJSU Votes! was preparing for voter mobilization and the opening of the Vote Center on campus!
On Thursday, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, Representative Anna Eshoo (CA-18), Representative Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), Assembly Member Ash Kalra (AD27), SJSU President Mary Papazian, and SJSU Votes! opened the vote center at the Friends of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library Bookstore.
After the ribbon cutting, Sec. Padilla, Rep. Eshoo, Rep. Lofgren, and Pres. Papazian held an informative forum on Election Security at Hammer Theater. It was an excellent event!
SJSU Votes! and the League of Women Voters mobilized voters and handed out information about the Voter’s Choice Act before the event.
Voter's Choice Act Forum held on Monday, Feb. 10
SJSU Votes! and Pi Sigma Alpha held a forum on the Voter’s Choice Act at SJSU on Monday, Feb 10. The forum featured Registrar of Voters Shannon Bushey, League of Women Voters Vice President of Program and Advocacy Gloria Chun Hoo, and SJSU Assistant Professor Mary Currin-Percival. The event was a great success with over 75 people in attendance.
SJSU Votes! continues to inform voters about the Voter's Choice Act!
Last Wednesday, November 13th, Pi Sigma Alpha and SJSU Votes! tabled on the 7th St. Plaza from noon to 6pm. It was a very successful event as we registered multiple voters, talked to many students, faculty, and staff about the Voter’s Choice Act, and encouraged people to vote in the upcoming March, 2020 presidential primary. Thank you to Students Demand Action and College Republicans for also working to register voters!
Voter Registration and Information at the Hammer Theater
Students and volunteers from the SJSU Votes and Pi Sigma Alpha team provided information about voter registration and the Voter’s Choice Act at the Hammer Theater, on October 10th, before the Democracy Project event. The team spoke with multiple staff, faculty, students, and community members. The event was an especially successful opportunity to provide voters information about how elections will be conducted in Santa Clara County under the Voter’s Choice Act! Thank you to the Democracy Project for inviting us!
SJSU Votes! Registered Voters: Day 2!
September 25, 2019. SJSU Votes! was on the 7th St. Plaza again on Wednesday registering voters and talking to students, faculty, and staff about the upcoming March Primary and the California Voter’s Choice Act. In two days, they registered over 20 students! They also gave out information cards, provided by the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, and talked to voters about the changes that the VCA will bring.

On National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 24, 12-2pm, SJSU Votes! and Pi Sigma Alpha registered SJSU students and provided information about the Voter’s Choice Act. SJSU Votes! and Pi Sigma Alpha also assisted the MPA Student Association with their tabling in from of Clark Hall 4-6pm.
Election Day!
Election Day is finally here and SJSU Votes! has been all over campus mobilizing Spartans! We are letting them know how to find their polling location, where to find voter information, and how to register last-minute. Please join us tonight 7pm-10:30pm to watch the election results in Student Union Meeting Room 1A. This A.S. Lobby Corps and Pi Sigma Alpha event is co-sponsored by SJSU Votes! and we’re really looking forward to it! Snacks will be provided!
